THOUGHTS FROM JACKIE: “Remembering the Rainbow”

The rainbow over the last few decades has taken on a meaning outside of its original biblical intent. The rainbow symbolized a covenant with God. Man had sinned and God punished sin by the destruction of the entire earth by flood. Man’s corruption was beyond redemption so something had to happen. Scripture says it this way.
Genesis 6:5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Man was to far gone because of his total immersion into sin practices. With no savior to pay the price for man’s behavior there was no choice but to wipe the slate clean and begin anew. Just eight people would be left to conduct the earth’s restart. Knowing all things, God knew the earth would still have floods and the like. God lovingly decided to make a reassuring covenant with man.
Genesis 9:12 God continued, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and everything living around you and everyone living after you. I’m putting my rainbow in the clouds, a sign of the covenant between me and the Earth. From now on, when I form a cloud over the Earth and the rainbow appears in the cloud, I’ll remember my covenant between me and you and everything living, that never again will floodwaters destroy all life. When you the rainbow appears in the cloud, I’ll see it and remember the eternal covenant between God and everything living, every last living creature on Earth.”
