THOUGHTS FROM JACKIE: “I Can’t Get This Image Out of My Head”

I cannot get this image (google) of unbareable grief out of my head. Pictures like this one are what you don’t see enough of when an unarmed Black man is killed. As a minister what do I tell this woman that can ease her pain? Her life will never be the same because someone she loved was taken away for what often has been unwarranted reasons. People that are kneeling are trying to prevent, among other things, widows, and other family members from suffering like this precious woman. Far to many Christians are more concerned about the flag (distraction) than they are about this woman’s pain. If this photo was of a White woman grieving for the same reason, I would give the same amount of energy to prevent more suffering. Why are there so many Christians who seem to not understand this is a human rights issue as much as it is a civil rights issue? Why aren’t Christians standing up for what’s right? I’m a Christian before I’m a Black man. I can see the right & wrong of this so easily and struggle to understand why others cannot. Injustice shouldn’t have color lines. Every injustice should be treated the same in obedience to what scripture requires. Jesus shared His heart through the Apostle Paul.
Colossians 3:9,12
Don’t lie to one another. You’re done with that old life. It’s like a filthy set of ill-fitting clothes you’ve stripped off and put in the fire. Now you’re dressed in a new wardrobe. Every item of your new way of life is custom-made by the Creator, with his label on it. All the old fashions are now obsolete. Words like Jewish and non-Jewish, religious and irreligious, insider and outsider, uncivilized and uncouth, slave and free, mean nothing. From now on everyone is defined by Christ, everyone is included in Christ. So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. MSG
I’m hoping the same thing that’s happening to me happens everyone that reads this blog post. I’m hoping Jesus will make it so that you cannot get this image out of your head. Much Luv!
